Nature Walk for Photographers

Join the Friends on a nature photography walk at the Freshwater Marsh, guided by a seasoned bird expert and one of our knowledgeable docents. Whether you're an experienced nature photographer or a beginner eager to practice, there is a space for you.

Bring your camera,  binoculars, and your walking shoes for slow stroll through the Freshwater Marsh to connect with the natural world and capture its beauty in every frame.

* This is not a photography class, just an opportunity to take photos on a guided tour*

Registration:  Registration is required. You must also sign the digital waiver.

Parking: Street parking on Bluff Creek Drive in front of Ballona Discovery Park or the parking lot just west of the park in front of Playa Vista Elementary School and Sports Park. 

Ages: Recommended for ages 7 and up, but all ages are welcome. Youths 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

What to wear: Close-toed shoes that you don’t mind getting muddy and wet, weather-appropriate clothing, and a hat.

What to bring: We recommend you bring water, sunscreen, bug spray, and a snack if needed. The nearest restroom is located just under a quarter mile west of Ballona Discovery Park, at the Playa Vista Sports Park. Bring your own binoculars and camera.

Please arrive on time: We begin promptly! Please meet at the rectangular bronze sculpture at the entrance to Ballona Discovery Park.

Covid-19 Protocols: We recommend that participants comply with applicable public health COVID-19 safety guidelines.

Cancellations: For safety, we must cancel if it’s raining. Please check the weather before arriving. If you’re not sure, please check our website or social media for cancellation announcements.

Donations: The suggested donation is $5 per person. By donating online or at our events. Free tours and community service events are made possible by the efforts and donations of kind-hearted people like you.
